Each year, students work on a different YPAR project. The research aspect of the program is particularly important because it builds on the youth’s scholar identity. In helping youth see themselves as researchers, Youth Voices places the young people’s expertise at the center of knowledge production in a space (the University) often perceived as unwelcoming to minoritized populations.
The themes and outputs of each project are determined by the interest of the youth in the program, and our University partners and funders. For example, in 2021, our program received financial support from the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, which inspired the way we disseminated our research findings.
